West of the Atlantic coastline, set along the banks of the beautiful Waccamaw River, is the city of Conway. One of the oldest communities in South Carolina, Conway is the county seat of Horry County and oozes Southern charm and grace from its oak tree-lined streets that run through the picturesque historic district.
Conway’s past, dating back to 1732, has been proudly preserved in an historic site trail map listing 39 historic sites, significant buildings and churches, and distinctive homes. Seventeen of these sites are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the City Hall building, said to have been designed by Robert Mills, architect of the Washington Monument. Conway is also recognized as a City of Character and Tree City USA.
In addition to the historic trail, you can stroll along the Riverwalk to take in the scenic Waccamaw River and Riverfront Park, located at the end of the Riverwalk, a peaceful spot for picnics or carefree fun for the kids on the playground. Rent a kayak at the park and explore Conway by water. As a cultural hub, Conway also hosts a lineup of working art studios scattered throughout the downtown’s historic district – from painting galleries to glass-blowing classes. Discover the treasures of Horry County by taking in an exhibit at the Horry County Museum. Take a Conway taxi cab to a live theatre production in the Old Main Street Theater or Coastal Carolina University’s Wheelwright Auditorium.
Any way you to decide to visit Conway or route you take while you’re here, we at City Cab of Myrtle Beach will be here to guide you along the way.
